What are scholarly articles?

Scholarly articles are articles published in scholarly journals.  Scholarly journals are also called peer-reviewed, academic, refereed, or professional journals.

Instructors often recommend that students use scholarly articles because they usually:

• Are written by authors who are experts (researchers or scholars) in the field.
• Report original research, experiments, or theories.
• Are checked for quality and significance before being published.
